Pitching-winning Creative, Director and Editor for the launch of Apple TV+'s Trying - Season 2.

Apple TV+ knew they would have access to interview the individual cast members of the series for PR purposes. But, how to elevate that, to show potential new audiences that the show had more connection points than the key theme of a couple going through the adoption process?  

I created and directed two pieces of content, ensuring there was a strong core idea in each that could hold the elements together.  The Trying "Guide to Life" shows that there are different storylines and characters to relate to, outside of the main theme of adoption.  And of course we kept it all tongue-in-cheek to draw on the comedy of the series.  For the "Do's and Don'ts of Adoption" we used what would have been interview time, to get Rafe Spall and Esther Smith into character.  Playing to the show's knowing humour and ability to turn a serious subject into something hugely uplifting and watchable.  This was all shot in the middle of the first Covid lockdown, which meant directing many of the cast via Zoom. 

Season 2 was such a great success that Season 3 was quickly commissioned. The content we produced was hugely praised, most notably by Jay Hunt, Apple TV's Creative Director of Worldwide Video... "This is utterly UTTERLY wonderful, thank you so much!”.  Something I am hugely proud of, as Jay has seen it all and done it all and is a huge influence within the TV industry.
